Glory Days
Back in the day I used to run a blog, sometime in the early 2000's called Inside Left, and about Scottish football, it was listed in The Times as the 12th best blog about football. I loved writing it, Scottish football being a passion of mine. I'll explain why some other time, but for now it's enough to know that I wrote about it. A lot. Looking back on the archives (in a Blogger blog somewhere) I am amazed at the amount I wrote, and - not bragging or anything - the quality of it.
Some of it was rather good, even if I do say so myself.
It came to a crashing halt when I was approached by some gambling sites to place some adverts on the site in return for a small amount of money. It was at that precise moment I pulled the plug, the Corinthian ideals of writing to inform, as opposed to writing to earn, that drove me to start the blog in the first place being at risk, the site compromised by things I don't engage in, or would want other to engage in. As soon as money enters the equation, it's a race to the bottom, and rather than sacrifice my integrity, I deleted the blog.
I am a bit temperamental and impulsive. I did regret it for a while but once the decision was made I couldn't really go back on it.
I'm stubborn too.
Being a fan of Aberdeen FC through some of the glory days, a period roughly from 1979 to 1986, I was present through a time when Aberdeen, managed by Alex Ferguson, together with Dundee United (the 'New Firm') temporarily ended the domination of Celtic and Rangers. United won the league in '83, and Aberdeen in '84 and '85. That would be the last time a team from outside the Old Firm won the league, but that may well change this season as Hearts are two games away from doing what United did back in '83, and be the first champions outside of Glasgow.
Exciting times, in other words, and what better time to rekindle my love of all things Scottish football, just as the season comes to an end. Time to slowly build up the site, and content again in time for the new season that starts in August, hopefully - can I say that as an Aberdeen fan - with someone other than Celtic or Rangers as champions.
Over the next few weeks and months as we head for the new season I'll be slowly building up this site. It's going to be niche, but then all good things are, right?
